Urban Wandering - Barbican

The Barbican has become my new front room recently during the excellent Urban Wandering program which is currently showing focussing on london. On friday Will Self, Lynsey Hanley and Andrea Luka Zimmerman discussed architecture, social housing and psychogeography. Andrea Luka Zimmerman's film Estate was shown which documents the end and of an iconic estate in Haggerston demolished to make way for more luxury flats. The discussion was chaired by film curator Gareth Evans. On Saturday the series continued with Mike Leigh's Naked. The film was projected using Mike Leigh's original 35mm reel and on Monday with a special screening of the filmmaker John Smith's London.

Xerography Exhibition

At the weekend I checked out the Firstsite Gallery in Colchester which is a new contemporary art gallery in Essex. The exhibition 'Xerography' focusses on work made by artists and artists groups that have used the photocopier as the central process in their work(s). The exhibition has an amazing collection of work including really rare original works by Sol Le Witt and Bruno Munari's Xerografia bookwork amongst many others. Here's some images from the show and exhibition entrance. Check more info here: Firstsite

The Age of Colour by Gestalten

Neasden Control Centre's work included in a new book released by Gestalten...

The Age of Collage
Contemporary Collage in Modern Art

Spontaneous, irreverent, and personal, collage fits more perfectly into our current world than almost any other artistic technique.

Editors: Dennis Busch, Robert Klanten, Hendrik Hellige
Release Date: August 2013
Format: 24 × 30 cm
Features: 272 pages, full color, hardcover
Language: English
ISBN: 978-3-89955-483-0

About This Book

The Age of Collage is a striking documentation of today’s continued appetite for destructive construction. Showcasing outstanding current artwork and artists, the book also takes an insightful behind-the-scenes look at those working with this interdisciplinary and cross-media approach.

The collages featured in this book are influenced by illustration, painting, and photography and play with elements of abstraction, constructivism, surrealism, and dada. Referencing scientific images, pop culture, and erotica, they reflect humanity’s collective visual memory and context.

Through confident cuts, brushstrokes, mouse clicks, or pasting, the work in The Age of Collage gives the impossible a tangible form. It expands the possibilities of the genre while turning our worldview on its head along the way.

L.I.E - Summer School

Myself and Holly Wales were invited recently by L.I.E (Library of Independent Exchange) to lead a one day workshop at Plymouth Arts Centre recently - the theme of our day was 'Memory and the Internet' where we posed the question is the internet hindering or helping our ability to remember and store information. The result of our workshop culminated in a small photocopied + stamped publication by each member of the group.

"L.I.E Design School examines the processes and ideas involved in designing, editing and producing published matter. Individual sessions will be led by visiting practitioners and will include talks, seminars, screenings and tutorials.
